At the end of the hike every one tucked into hot dogs cooked by the Deputy District
Commissioner, whilst the points were added up.
There was five team from four groups with the eventual winners coming thro by One
Point!, there was only three points between the five teams.
Werrington Wednesday pack won, over joint second place of 1st Medehamstede, Glinton

With other scouting skill centers sich as looking at the White House, all the memorabilia that is in the museum and BP's caravan which is still keeped in the grounds. They thoughly enjoyed themselves and when got home were completely tired out. Although it rained a bit during the day there was enough activities to keep the cubs busy all the time. "

After many requests from the Scout Troop a crate stacking facility has been built at the Bretton Headquarters.
The first hurdle was to access the supporting bean 40’ up an established oak tree. This was overcome by a request to Hewden who supplied an aerial platform and two members of staff for the day.
Mind you this is not the first time Hewden have helped the Group out with machinery.
Having fixed the chain in place and run a guide line through it, a simple process followed of reeving the climbing rope, setting up the ground anchor and belay and attaching the individual “stackers” to it for several hours of fun.

The Group visited 22 Squadron a part of the RAF Search & Rescue Force. They were given an insight into their operations and responsibilities and then permitted to access the aircraft where two of the crew explained their roles, one being the co pilot the other being the winchman/paramedic. This visit was part of a series made to the Coastguard and Lifeboats stressing the need to be safe & vigilant around the coasts, on water and when walking in the more remoter places of the UK. A final visit is planned towards the end of October to MRCC Lee on Solent which will complete the package
The Group family camp at Tolmers Scout Camp near Potters Bar. A family camp is run each year at a different Scouting venue to enable parents to have a bit more involvement and experience some scouting activities, It is also a means of them encouraging involvement with the Group. An all inclusive weekend costs £10
Four patrols took part in this years Medehamstede District Incident Hike on cold and frosty Saturday 4th February . Tey started at intervals between 10.30am and 11.30am in zero temperatures. The route started at Castor and Ailsworth Village Hall and finished at the Helpston Scout & Guild Headquarters, at total distance of 81/4 miles. They walked through 9 bases and completed 7 challenges each. The total time to complete the route was 31/2 house of walking and 2 hours for the challenges, the first patrol finished at 15:40 and the last patrol at 16:35, ten minutes before the first snow flake descended to brighten up the scouts evening, The temperature rose to 2 degrees above by 13:00 and dropping to minus 3 degrees at 14:30. But every one on the bases kept warm by some means or other and the scouts were warm with the effort of walking. On arriving at Helpston the patrols and the 23 Explorer Scouts and leaders manning the bases enjoyed a hot meal while waiting for the results to be computed, after the meal the results were announced as follows First Place 63rd St. Kyneburgha B Patrol - with 521 points Second Place 47th Thorney - with 519 points Third Place 7th Peterborough (Helpston Village) - with 509 points Fourth Place 63rd St. Kyneburgha A Patrol - with 464 points
Very well done to 63rd St. Kyneburgha B Patrol for winning this event, especially as they are the newest Troop in the District and also fielded some of the youngest Scouts, so doubly well done and we hope they will make a spirited defence of the trophy next year. The event was very well received and is in the calendar for the same weekend next year when we hope it will be a little warmer, but the general opinion was that the cold was preferable to the rain we have had in past years.
